Now this has really caught my imagination...

Fresh milk from a 24 hour filling machine in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid.

Now I just need to find the place? It can't be more than a couple of km's away? Hmm....

German farmer's 24 hour milk filling station a hit

A German dairy farmer has come up with a novel way to drum up new business -- he opened a "milk filling station."
The "Milchtankstelle" near Cologne in the town of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid dispenses the output of 78 cows from a stainless steel vending machine. Customers can either bring their own empty containers or buy milk bottles to fill up.
"I only had a few customers before I opened the station because they had to come at set milking times, which was a problem," dairy farmer Bruno Stauf told Reuters. "Now they can buy my milk whenever they want."
The milk filling station is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Customers can select the amount of milk they want to purchase at a price of 70 cents per litre. They insert the money, put their container under the nozzle and press a button.

    "Milk-to-go from the milk station

In the small village Pohlhausen in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid a new gas station has opened. It is - as usual - open 24 hours, seven days a week. But has two differences from normal gas stations: A liter costs only 70 cents and out of the tap comes, not fuel, but fresh milk.
The idea was hatched by a resourceful farmer, frustrated by the low price of milk paid by the big dairies... He now offers 'draw your own milk'..

Open 24 hours: The milk station also looks pretty.

I've given up... here's the google translate version (good luck)!

Difficult it is, almost like cream, milk from the Farm Service Station - Sandra Jellinek is now coming here every day. And what 24-hour petrol station already has this flair? - Inclusive attendant service. Bruno Bauer Stauffer said new customers as it gets. Pure raw milk from a vending machine, is completely untreated, non-pasteurized - but legal. The dispenser is cleaned daily and checked for bacteria. To be on the safe side, can boil the milk - he must not do that. The milk comes from happy grazing cows 77. Every morning and every evening they occur on the way to the milking parlor.

A little more expensive than the supermarket

€ 8,000 invested in farm Stauf the entire system.
The low milk prices Bruno Stauffer brought the idea with the gas station. Although dairies now pay 28 cents per liter, and not just 20 as the beginning of the year. But this is not the farmer. At the gas station he sells this milk - more expensive than the supermarket - for 70 cents per liter. The customers have no problem with the price. Some, like the landscape gardener Oliver Neumann come by even for a sip of milk. After all, it is here: the cup for 10 cents for direct drinking. About 8,000 farmers have invested € Stauffer in the gas station, he can live on it as yet. This was more of a good extra income, he says. As well, the verrraten he will not. Trade secret of a milk-station attendant.

  5. Hey-hey... it's only 5.5km from my front door AND on the way to work. Fare ye well supermarkets... Fresh milk here we come :)

  6. Wow, it's like having a 24-hour convenience store for milk lovers, and it's as easy as pouring water into a pitcher. More tourists might visit that town to try the vending milk machine and taste their well-known product.
